Her name is corruption. In this mine own tongue must thou seek. #thegintercode

Drink not of the fruit of the land, but wade instead to its preserve. #thegintercode

I have to admit, in retrospect points like these make us feel pretty dumb for not having gotten it sooner. I say that with perspective, because (1) we had NO idea really what was going on here, or what we were looking for, and (2) I feel like we're quite a bit smarter now than we were a year ago. This point was part of a batch of four points that were released in early September, and it took us a few weeks really to figure out that we were looking for profiles on other social media sites. On this one, we eventually got more clues:
Discover about whom the tumbl tale is told and feel not the sting of obscurity. #thegintercode

Had the mystery of the willow and the meadow been solved yesterday, somewhere a wedding would have been rained out. #thegintercode

Not how it was originally intended, but both willow and meadow are also good clues in their relationship to foliage. #thegintercode

One evening, Brian stayed up late doing some research, and he started piecing things together:
-- The "wedding would have been rained out" tweet came the day after Columbus Day;
-- "Relationship to foliage" ... Trees? Leaves?
That research led Brian here: Leif_Erikson
Which then led him here: L'Anse aux Meadows
Which was where things started to come together and he knew he had something. "Jellyfish Cove" ... "sting of obscurity" ... "Her name is corruption" (Medusa) ... "the fruit of the land" (Vin-land) ... yep, that was something.
Brian immediately went to Tumblr and searched for "Jellyfish Cove" ... nothing. He searched for many other things and couldn't seem to find it. He sent his findings to Jim and I, and I searched Tumblr for "Jellyfish Cove". Turns out, whatever browser Brian was using omitted the result, because I immediately saw this:
Jellyfish Cove
Within minutes we submitted the correct answer and scored the point.

Bonus points for anyone who can solve the mystery of the willow and the meadow. :)
- Grant
Brian and I both typed in Jellyfish Cove into the app version of tumblr. The app version search would only return some blog from a French woman or something like that. We both spent two hours typing in various versions of medusa and jellyfish into tumblr with no results.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, Grant saved us by using the actual website version, something I never would have thought to do because why would the searches be different?
It's also my hypothesis that Adam and his team didn't get this profile point and the "where is everything going?" point because you weren't trying to type the exact profile name into the site, but rather you were able to search for it.
I know that if we'd have gotten the Leonardo point by typing in the exact name into the url string we'd probably have kept trying that for all four points.
We actually had tried typing direct names into the address for all the profile points. Our issue was that we didn't make the connection to Jellyfish cove at all. We were so far off on this point. We thought it had something to do with Shea Stadium, which is located in Flushing Meadows, in a park with a Willow lake and a Meadow lake. We found a password protected tumblr called meadowlake, and obsessed over trying to figure out the password.
ReplyDeleteAre you saying you don't know what the willow has to do with anything? I needed an excuse to use "tumbld," so I turned it into a hint pointing to the name. Willow Cove?
ReplyDeleteHa - of course we know! Funny thing though, we didn't realize it until after we'd solved the point. Very clever clue.
